Safety Tips
Here are some simple tips on how to keep your home safe!
There are many simple things that can be done to increase the general safety at your home.

1. Keep entrances well lit.
2. Restrict access. Ladders, benches and low tree branches can allow others access to windows ect in your home.
3. Keep your home visible, including your house number, a house that is visible from the street is less likely to be a target, and allowing your house number to be seen will allow authorities respond quicker to an emergency.
4. Ensure doors are properly fitted and hinged from the inside.
5. Don't hide keys around the entrance of your home, leave keys with a friend or neighbor.

Vacation Safety
While you are away from your home there are some important things that can be done to prevent criminals from knowing that you are away.

1. Ensure that walks are shoveled, or lawns are cut and mail is picked up daily, this helps create the illusion that there is still someone residing in the home.
2. Enable timers in your home for various lights in your home.
3. Have someone check on the home regularly.
4. Let your security company know that you will be away and the information of anyone that will be accessing the house while you are away to avoid confusion.

Fire Safety
1. Smoke detectors - Ensure that smoke sensors are placed in various areas throughout your home. Having monitored sensors ensure that even if you are not home a problem is reported right away. Test sensors regularly and replace batteries yearly.
2. Fire Extinguishers - These are valuble to keep in your house. "ABC" type extinguishers are valuable due to the versatility for all types of fires. Never place yourself in danger but a small fire may be thwarted if you have an accessible extinguisher. It is very important that adults and older children in the home know how to use the extinguisher. A fire extinguisher is only valuable if you know how to use it.
3. Escape Plan - Ensure that you have an escape plan that is practiced with all family members. Ensure that you have a meeting place arranged, and that alternates are available in your planning depending on the origin of a fire.
